Does the TIE replace the passport? +
Within Spain, yes. To travel abroad, you must use your passport. The TIE is a Spanish national identity document.
How long does it take to receive the TIE? +
Between 30-45 days in ordinary procedure from the date of your application.
What do I do if my residence expires before I receive the TIE? +
The application receipt remains valid during the procedure. We advise you to request renewal 2-3 months in advance.
Can I renew the TIE before it expires? +
Yes, starting 3 months before its expiration date.
Is it mandatory to carry the TIE at all times? +
It is not mandatory to carry it at all times, but you must present it if authorities request it. We recommend carrying it as your official document.
What do I do if I lose my TIE? +
You must file a report with the National Police and request a duplicate with the police report receipt.
